Genre: Fantasy>Mermaids
Pages: 324

Summery from Goodreads…
Galen, a Syrena prince, searches land for a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. It’s while Emma is on vacation at the beach that she meets Galen. Although their connection is immediate and powerful, Galen's not fully convinced that Emma's the one he's been  looking for. That is, until a deadly encounter with a shark proves  that Emma and her Gift may be the only thing that can save his kingdom. He needs her help--no matter what the risk.

The Good, The Bad, The Krazyness…

I just have one word to describe my feelings for this book: Ohmysweetgoodness!!!!
My gosh, I haven’t had this strong of a reaction to a book in quite a while. I’d be grinning like a krazy person while reading, I’d smile for no reason long after I put the book down for bed, scenes keep replaying themselves in my mind, and I’m bursting at the seams trying not to give the whole book away to my sister cause I just have to talk about it!

I really didn’t know what to expect when I first picked up Of Poseidon because I had never read a mermaid(Syrena) book before, unless you count the Little Mermaid, and it had a more contemporary feel to it which for the most part I avoid. I was blown out of the water(^_^)! The first page had me laughing and right away you are introduced to the very animated character of Emma who has run SMACK into the very hot and very shirtless Galen (definitely a beach read.lol) I love these characters, they are so alive and snarky and the interaction between all of them, not just the main characters, is entertaining and kept my interest the whole time.

Galen and Emma have got to be one of my favorite couples. They don’t have to be a couple to be enjoyable but whenever they’re on the page together I can’t help but smile. Yes, Galen does act like a jackass (Emma’s words, not mine) sometimes and a bit possessive but I can forgive him a little for that for a couple reasons. 1) He’s a royal and is not used to people not doing what he says, 2) Syrena’s are known to have bad tempers, 3) he comes from a whole different world where they have life-mates and different laws so he has a really hard time in certain human situations. But the best part is that Emma won’t put up with that crap. I really love Emma for this because she’ll do things to make Galen learn the hard way that there are some things a human teenage girl will smack you for (well, she doesn’t smack him but that would have been funny.) I also loved Rayna and Toraf. They are also Syrena and come out of the water every now and then because they are either bored (Rayna) or are lovesick and following the bored one (Toraf). These guys, and a couple others, make up a great cast of characters that work so well together.

I don’t know about you, but I used to swim around when I was younger pretending I was a mermaid so I really fell in love with the underwater world Banks create with the Syrena and the kingdoms of Triton and Poseidon, who right now are at odds with each other. I love how they change from their fins to their feet and how fast they can swim, it made me totally jealous. The whole “sensing” things was interesting as well. To not only be able to tell when someone is near you underwater but to tell who they are is brilliant! It is definitely a good thing to have if you live in something as big as the ocean.

I thought the pacing was good, and I enjoyed every page, but 324 pages was not enough for me, I’m dying for more! This is the downside to reading books when they first come out… the wait *pout*. Be warned, there is a big cliffhanger that left me like “AAHHHH! NO, DON’T STOP THERE!” I actually guessed the big twist early on but the cliffhanger still got me. I can’t wait for the sequel to find out what happens next, I’m already playing through different scenarios in my head! This book is definitely on my wishlist!

  2. yeah, most books I'm satisfied with the length, even with series', but this one was such a fun I hated where they cut off. The wait is gonna feel forever!lol

  3. Emma seems like such a strong YA heroine who won't brush things off or back down if Galen's attitude/actions annoy her. We need to have more of these kinds of protagonists! Seems as if this is a really good book. Great review:)
