Greetings from the Forbidden Forest/The Crimson Thread: A Retelling of "Rumpelstiltskin"

Heya, Greeting's from the Forbidden Forest! After months of talking about it I'm finally starting up a blog! Sweetness! Just finished up another fall semester at college and hope to go on a reading binge. Here's a small review of a short, but incredibly cute, fairy tale remake to get me started.

The Crimson Thread: A Retelling of "Rumpelstiltskin"

I'll just start out by saying how much I LOVE the Once Upon a Time series. I'm a big fan of all the Disney movies and these are just fairy tales for us older ones. This book kept me in such suspense as to whether it was going to follow the original tale or give it a completely new twist.

Crimson Thread is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin so if you know that story you know some of what to expect. It is set in the late 1880's and follows the story of Bridget/Bertie fresh off the ship from Ireland with her father, 3 brothers and three year old sister looking for the American dream. Throughout all her struggles in this new life the mysterious man Ray is always right there to help her out. I love the Character of Bertie and how passionate she is to learn new things and improve herself yet not to proud to ask for help.

Unlike many of the OUAT books this one, despite being only 207 pages, kept a good pace and left me really satisfied with the ending. Weyn spun together a beautiful crafted tale that had me tearing up at the end. I'm really hoping more of these fun remakes come out! They are a fun, easy read that just leaves you smiling.

  1. I've seen these around, but I've never actually picked any of them up. I might have to try them in the near future!
